Common Types of Wood Boring Beetles


Size: 1-8mm

Colour: Dark brown to blackish brown

Damage: Exit holes are usually 1.5-3mm

General Info: This type is common in Ontario. As wood-boring beetles, they can cause serious damage to buildings, furniture and wooden articles. The larvae are able to digest cellulose and feed primarily on sapwood. In old homes, they are often found in joist and support timbers.

Risks: Structural damage.
